Canadian Nursing Review Program for IENs (For Canadians

In order to become a nurse in Canada, candidates are required to navigate a maze of requirements for nurse registration. These include the NNAS (National Nursing Assessment Service), the NCAS (Nursing Community Assessment Service in BC), and the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) or the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE). Each of these steps can be overwhelming, but they were designed to measure the competencies required of entry-level nurses for safe and effective practice.

Who the Program is for

The Canadian Nursing Review Program – for Residents of Canada was designed for nurse graduates who were educated overseas (Internationally-Educated Nurses (IENs)) and who are now living in Canada and want to pursue their nursing careers here. Following the completion of this program, you will be more prepared to take each of the steps needed to achieve your Canadian nurse registration*.

*Note: successful completion of this program does not guarantee a passing grade on the licensing exam.

Our Instructors

IOP Career provide access to nursing which offer the perfect balance of passion for nursing and dedication to teaching that IENs need to be successful.  They are all Canadian Registered Nurses with years of experience working in hospitals and care facilities in Canada. Most of them came to Canada and IENs themselves originally, and understand first-hand the transition our students are going through.  Many of our instructors choose to continue to work clinically part-time to ensure that what they are bringing to the classroom are as current as possible.  T

Program Outline

The Canadian Nursing Review Program covers topics such as:

  • Nursing in Canada
  • Major concepts in nursing
  • Homeostasis challenges
  • Medical/Surgical health challenges
  • Mental health
  • Obstetrics/Pediatrics
  • Community/Gerontology
  • Professional Practice

Students enrolled in this program are also given the opportunity to practice their nursing clinical skills and techniques during the Nursing Practice Skills Laboratory (Nursing 1001), as well as during a 1-week clinical placement experience at a Canadian care facility. The clinical placement provides students with an introduction to Canadian health care facility, and gives them the opportunity to help residents with ADLs (activities of daily living). These hands-on practical experiences will help strengthen their knowledge learned in class, boost their confidence and give them the skills necessary to succeed in the workforce.

Canadian Nursing Review Program is designed specifically to support students through this complex process, and to help them successfully and confidently transition as licensed RNs and LPNs into the Canadian workforce.

This is not simply a test preparation program. Getting through each milestone of the process requires far more than just reviewing content – our program teaches the skills required to be actually job-ready. This includes learning how to effectively make nursing judgments, develop critical thinking skills, and also practicing hands-on skills based on medical/nursing practices and terminology used within a Canadian context.
